The 15th Annual Chester County Turkey Trot will be held on Thanksgiving morning, November 24, 2016 at Downingtown West High School. The event is a 5k race/walk, a 2k walk, and a Kids Fun Run. It is a very festive way to start the holiday morning!! Every year we get a fantastic turnout - we had about 3,000 registered runners in 2015!
The course is flat and incredibly FAST! The course starts at Downingtown West High School and finishes inside of Kottmeyer Stadium. Technical shirts are guaranteed to the first 2,200 registered runners!
In addition to supporting the Downingtown West Cross Country team, proceeds of the race will benefit Cure4Cam Childhood Cancer Foundation. Information on Cure4Cam is available at www.Cure4Cam.org. Cure4Cam Childhood Cancer Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded by family and friends in memory of Cameron Evans, a teammate and friend who lost his battle with leukemia in May 2012. Cameron was a gifted athlete and a compassionate, positive, and inspiring young man. His perseverance and spirit touched all of us.
Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors and our community, the race has raised over $169,000 for pediatric cancer research and awareness since 2012.
The Cure4Cam Childhood Cancer Foundation seeks to raise community awareness about, and supports the development of, new and more humane therapies for childhood cancer. Today, standard therapies for children with cancer involve highly toxic and damaging treatments that cause painful and embarrassing side-effects, force separation from family and friends, have devastating short and long-term psychological impact, and produce permanent health issues. These unfavorable effects are not well known in the general population and, ultimately, many of these children do not survive. We believe in a future in which cancer treatment for children will be gentler and more effective.
New and highly inspirational therapies, which specifically target each patient's individual cancer cells, are within reach but seriously underfunded. By bringing breakthroughs in childhood cancer research to the forefront, we can raise public concern and, subsequently, funds needed to support research grants and new clinical studies. We need your help. As Cameron said, “the best kind of inspiration is the kind that makes you want to save a life.”
